MS To Unveil New Competencies at Partner Conference

Microsoft Corp. will be unveiling its new Custom Development Solutions Competency this weekend at its 2005 Worldwide Partner conference in Minneapolis, Minn.

According to the conference's program guide, a breakout session called "Introducing the New Custom Development Solutions Competency" (CD005) will be held at the show on July 10 at 2 p.m.

The competency has yet to be added to the official list on Microsoft's Web site; however, information about it can be obtained through the Competency pull-down menu in the Partner area of Microsoft.com.

According to a FAQ published by Microsoft, the Custom Developer Solutions competency will include several specializations, such as Infrastructure Environment and Web Development. To earn it, partners will need to have two Microsoft Certified Solution Developers on staff and provide three references from customers, among other requirements.

Microsoft said the new competency will launch in fall 2005.

It appears that several companies are already pursuing the competency, as 11 companies were nominated last week in two Custom Development Solutions Competency categories for the 2005 Microsoft Partner Awards. Winners of these awards will be announced at the WWPC show.

Microsoft also plans to launch a Mobility Solutions Competency this fall. Like Custom Development Solutions, Mobility Solutions is not yet listed on the official competency list, but information about the area can be found on Microsoft.com partner site.

Two other previously announced competencies — Licensing Solutions and OEM Hardware Solutions — are scheduled to open for registration later this year.
