The Microsoft Learning Group plans to take no time off during the holidays, with work continuing this week on beta testing for several exams related to SharePoint Server as well as one on Exchange Server 2007.

First up is Exam 70-541 TS: Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 - Application Development, which begins beta testing on Dec. 27, with a long test phase that lasts until Feb. 9, 2007. Those who pass this exam will achieve MCTS status. It's unknown at this time whether the exam is required for a higher-level Professional series title.

On Jan. 2, 2007, another SharePoint exam goes beta: 70-542 TS: Office SharePoint Server 2007 - Application Development. The Technology Specialist-level exam is expected to count toward a Professional series title as well, but the track hasn't been divulged by Microsoft as of yet. This exam also goes through a month-long beta ending Feb. 9.

Also being released into beta on Jan. 2 is Exam 70-236 TS: Exchange Server 2007 Configuration, an MCTS exam. (To read more about the new Exchange 2007 track, see "Vista, Office, Exchange Certs on Track.") The beta test closes on Jan. 16.

Live dates for these exams haven't been posted to the exam objective guides as of this writing.

Registration is already open for these exams, and only those who receive an invitation from Microsoft to the take the beta are eligible. While in beta, these exams are prefixed with a 71. Beta exams are free, according to Microsoft.
