Microsoft is doing some reorganizing, including one of its largest and most profitable business units.

According to Mary Jo Foley, a Redmond magazine contributor who blogs about Microsoft for ZDNet, Microsoft has shifted its Server and Tools unit, under the leadership of Senior Vice President Bob Muglia, to the Microsoft Business Division (MBD), led by Jeff Raikes. Muglia will now report to Raikes.

Also, reported Foley, "Microsoft is moving its Developer and Platform Evangelism team under Corporate Vice President Sanjay Parthasarathy to the Server and Tools Business unit under Muglia."

A press release gave the company's rationale for the moves: "Microsoft senior leadership decided to make these changes to sharpen leadership focus on the company's top priorities and align its organization for innovation, ultimately enabling it to deliver even more value to its customers."
